Make your own holiday day is March 26th.

Updated on August 27, 2012

If you could make your own holiday, what would it be?

I think I'd want a National Day of memories. I'd spend the day going through boxes and boxes of treasures.

Like this wonderful photograph of my grandmother.

My first memory of her was a gray haired lady standing at the train depot as we arrived in Illinois for a visit. She was smiling so big I knew she was mine! I was nearly 4. I had seen her before, but it had been so long, but my memory was refreshed.

I few years later, age 6, I was delivered to her for the summer with my 7 year old sister. Our 5 year old sister had developed Strep Throat and Rheumatic Fever and was bed ridden. Our parents had to make a tough decision and ship us off to Grandma's.

I only saw her annually for several years, but when I was 12 she was the 8th party to join our family of 5 in a station wagon across country. The 6th and 7th were my Mom's sister Aunt Anna and her husband Uncle Charlie. This trip was the only family vacation we took, and it was a classic. The station wagon had 3 bench seats so 8 people each had their place. The back bench seat faced the rear. But the carrier on top didn't (couldn't) hold all luggage and souvenirs, so the back row got to share 3 preteen girls and multiple bags of paraphernalia.

Grandma's laughter throughout that trip kept everything lighthearted. Her squeals when she experienced hills on the two-lane roads, and her audible gasps when crossing the narrow Route 66 path through the Arizona and New Mexico were priceless. Memories of watching her as we visited cousins we had never met, sharing her love with other blood relatives; then staying awake with her all hours in the night in motel rooms, giggling, listening to her stories of her childhood, and tales about our Mother are warmest treasures.

When I was 16, I went back to Illinois for the summer. I helped my Grandmother sell her Pomeranian puppies from Pryor Kennels. She was awesome. I miss her, but have wonderful memories.

I think "Make your own holiday" should be a day to treasure family memories.

Make your own holiday is March 26th every year. - Which one of these ideas suits you best?

Vote them up or down. No one will be held to their response. Just for fun.

The photo is my "Office in a Closet." A few years back I decided to create a craft room and added a weaving loom. It became my "LOOMIN-AREA" so the office furniture had to go. This fold up secretary took the place of an office, with office storage shelves to the right (similar to the left shelves in the closet). What would you do with a free day?

What would you prefer to do on your own self-named holiday?

Make your own holiday is March 26th every year.

I will be on my motorcycle on March 26th 2012 returning from a trip to the Florida Keys. Several years ago we moved to the Florida Keys to start a new church. There were 2 couples who contacted the Bible College where my husband was a student. We were approached with the information and soon found ourselves in paradise.

We were so honored to serve in that capacity. we are returning for a reunion of sorts. Again, treasuring family. Our Christian walk has led us to many lasting friendships that have become like family.

We had a small farm in Indiana after my husband got out of the Army in the early 70's. This is a picture of our little family just before we wandered into a church, became Christians, and sold the farm for money to go to Bible College. We were hippies, seekers, wanderers. We are so thankful that we were able to give up the ugly habits we had delved into and clean up our ways in time to give our sons many incredible opportunities and life skills. We were definitely on the wrong path to begin with, but God put the right people in our path.

Make your own holiday is March 26 ... - take the day to restore some old photos.

I've inlaid my grandmother's picture next to mine. - I wanted to be just like her.

I think we look a lot alike and I'm honored.

What would you do with your day?
